MOBILE, Ala. ? University of South Alabama head women’s golf coach T.J. Jackson announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Monday.
Kristen Golightly (Pensacola, Fla./J.M. Tate HS) and Fanny Eineren (Kullavik, Sweden) both signed to join the South Alabama program for the 2009-2010 season.
“I’m excited to have both of these girls joining our program,” Jackson said. “Both girls should be able to step in and help us immediately.”
Golightly has found success as both a golfer and a softball player. A three-year starter at catcher on the Tate High School softball team, she led the team in home runs, batting average and RBI in 2007 and 2008. She was an honorable mention Pensacola News Journal softball player of the week in 2007.
On the golf course, Golightly has been selected to the Pensacola News Journal’s All-Area golf team in all four years of high school competition. The same publication also named her the Golf Prep Athlete of the Week during the 2008 season. Additionally, Golightly carries a 3.78 GPA and is a member of the Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“I’m excited about her because she hits the ball further than almost any girl I’ve seen, and distance is a huge advantage in women’s golf,” Jackson said. “She’s got tremendous power in her game, and she also has pretty good touch in her short game.”
Eineren will join the Jags from much further away. She resides in Kullavik, Sweden, the same hometown as Jag freshman Anna Sellen-Runefjell. Eineren has won the Skandia Cup two times by winning her age group at the Swedish Championship. She also won the 2007 Swedish High School Championship and the 2008 Calle Pettersons Junior Masters Invitational.
“Fanny has got a lot of international experience. She’s played in both America and Europe as a junior, and she’s had a lot of success,” Jackson said. “Her experience is going to be a big key for us when she gets here.”
Both student-athletes are wrapping up their prep careers and will have four years of eligibility when the join the Jaguar program.
