All but two spots have been claimed in the Sweet 16 of the inaugural Jaguar Baseball Ping Pong Tournament. Matt Drake will face Brandon Brown and Nathaniel Lami will take on Ryan Bohanan to fill the two remaining spots as soon as possible. Here's a recap of Friday's action:

Senior southpaw Brandon Sage showed again that experience is key in his dismantling of freshman backstop Brent Mitchell. He'll face the winner of Bohanan vs. Lami, if the two are ever able to commence their much-hyped showdown.

Assistant coach Seth Von Behren joined fellow assistant Scot Sealy in the Sweet 16 by defeating outfielder Adam Heisler. Von Behren moves on to face Michael Logan, who advanced by beating Chris Brown in a marathon match Thursday.

Another lefty, Chris LaGrow, knocked off Sean Laird to claim his spot in the Sweet 16, but his celebration was short-lived as he fell to Greg Johnson in one of only two third-round showdowns to be completed. David Doss knocked off Derek O'Reilly in the only other third-round match played Friday. With their wins, Johnson and Doss claimed the first two spots in the Elite Eight.

In the wrong side of the bracket, Chris Brown was able to bounce back from his defeat at the hands of Logan. Brown knocked off freshman Eric Walters, making Walters the second player eliminated. Fellow freshman Brad Montgomery is the only other Jag already out of contention.
