Track and Field's Odom to Compete in Junior National Championships

MOBILE, Ala. ? University of South Alabama men’s track and field javelin thrower Glen Odom will compete in the 2009 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held June 25-28, in Eugene, Ore.

 

Odom, a freshman from Foley, Ala., is scheduled to compete in the javelin finals at 3:10 p.m. Sunday at Hayward Field, located on the campus of the University of Oregon.

 

"Glen has improved his javelin personal best by nearly 30 feet this year since coming to USA,” head coach Paul Brueske said. “He has worked hard all year and it’s great to see that hard work start to pay off."

 

Odom qualified for the meet with his performance at the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. His throw of 61.26m/201-00 at the SBC Championships, a personal best, met the junior championships qualifying standard of 58.22m/191-00, and also earned all-SBC honors. This season, Odom ranked fourth in the SBC in the javelin.
