Five Jag Women?s Golfers Named To NGCA All-American Scholar Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ? Five members of the University of South Alabama women’s golf team were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Seniors Shirley Harvey and Darah Newell, junior Claudia Wolf, sophomore Nina Offenberg and freshman Ana Garcia were all named NGCA All-American Scholars.

"Our players continue their success in the classroom as well as on  the golf course as they have accomplished the difficult task of balancing both,” head coach T.J. Jackson said. “This recognition also reflects the support that our student-athletes receive from Linda Pereira and her staff in athletic academic advising."

The NGCA requires student athletes to carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, as well as compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds in order to be eligible.

“Anna Sellen-Runefjell would have qualified with her grades, but lacked the minimum number of tournaments played, so the whole team did well with the academic side,” Jackson said. “I can't say enough about their efforts.”

USA was one of only seven Division I teams to have five players named All-American Scholars; Brown, Fresno State, Cincinnati, Denver, Idaho and South Florida were the others. A total of 410 women’s golfers in Divisions I, II and III were named to the All-American Scholar team.
