TROY, Ala. - University of South Alabama women's golfers Fanny Eineren and Claudia Wolf finished tied for fourth after tournament officials canceled Tuesday's final round at the Troy University Invitational due to rain in the Troy area.
The Jaguars finished tied for fifth as a team, just four strokes behind Western Kentucky, who finished in third place. USA head coach T.J. Jackson said he was disappointed the team didn't get a chance to compete in the final round.
"We were looking forward to making up some ground," Jackson said. "We were ready to play. It's just unfortunate, so now all we can do is get ready for next week's tournament."
Eineren turned in the second-lowest first round with a one-over-par 73, then came back with a 76 in the second round. Wolf shot 74-75 to finish tied with Eineren. Both golfers finished just one stroke back of Austin Peay's Chelsea Harris, who took third place. Troy's Haley Lawrence won the individual title after shooting 71-74.
Louisiana-Monroe (310-297) took the team title by two strokes over tournament-host Troy (303-306).
Nina Offenberg finished tied for 23rd at 159 (78-81), while Anna Sellen-Runefjell carded a 164 (83-81), Ana Garcia posted a 165 (85-80) and Kristen Golightly added a 170 (83-87).
USA returns to action in its final tournament of the fall season when it travels to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the UAB Blazer Fall Beach Blast on Monday. The two-day tournament is hosted by Alabama-Birmingham and will be played at The Peninsula Golf Club.
