KINDER, La. – The University of South Alabama women’s golf team opened the spring season with a good start as they shot 921, but they thought they had won the McNeese Invitational when the left Koasiti Pines, Sunday. The Lady Jags followed up a 609 on Saturday with an 18-hole final round score of 312, but the McNeese staff misread the scoreboard and declared USA the winner instead of Florida International. The mistake was not found until late Sunday night after FIU had caught a flight out of Louisiana.

The Lady Jags were led by seniors Elin Andersson and Sara Marti’s 77 and junior Shirley Harvey’s 78. Junior Sally Miller carded 80, while freshman Nina Offenberg scored 81. Andersson finished the tournament tied for second place and Harvey finished in the top-10 in ninth.

South Alabama hits the links again as they host the Lady Jaguar Invitational at Azalea City Golf Club, March 3-4.
