CROSS COUNTRY WOMEN PLACE SECOND AT COACH ?O?

TROY, Ala. - South Alabama women placed second at the Coach "O" Invitational Saturday morning with two women placing in the top 10.

USA cross country completed its final regular season meet in Troy, Ala., as the Jaguar women took second place behind Samford and ahead of Troy. Freshman Tori Lawson finished the 3k course in second place with a time of 11:09.16.

"We had very strong performances by Tori Lawson and Maggie Chepkoech," said distance coach Tim Goldsack. "Tori has come along so quickly and is becoming one of the best freshman in the south region."

Maggie Chepkoech finished just behind Lawson in third (11:15.69), followed by Jessie Mackie in 12th place (11:48.61). Completing the top five women for the Jaguars was Kendra Lowe who finished 23rd (12:32.38), followed by Courtney Kieffer, who finished 26th (12:48.22).

"Jessie Mackie turned her ankle mid-race and fell back quickly after turning it. She was a trooper for the team though and finished the race with her injury," said Goldsack. "I was very proud of her for being a warrior."

The Jaguars will take a week off before beginning the championship portion of the season. The team will compete at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 31 in Monroe, La.
