MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will continue their six-match homestand Sunday when they face Arkansas State at 11 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Jags have never lost a match to the Red Wolves putting the all-time series at 11-0. In their last meeting at last season’s Sun Belt Championships South Alabama swept Arkansas State 4-0.
Facing losses in their last seven duals, USA (1-8) is looking to add another win to their record. The Jaguars most recent defeat came on March 14 when they fell 5-2 to Middle Tennessee at home. South Alabama has taken on two ranked opponents this year, including No. 38 Florida International and No. 73 Virginia Tech.
The Jags’ top singles performer is sophomore Chané Hines who boasts a 4-5 record from the No. 3 and No. 4 courts. Hines has also found success in doubles play pairing with USA veteran Katie Welch to post a 4-4 mark from the No. 1 position so far this season.
Arkansas State is 4-6 overall and 2-4 on the road going into their match against Troy on Saturday. The Red Wolves are coming off of a 6-1 win over Louisiana Tech on March 14.
ASU is led by sophomore Elne Barnard, who is 4-3 from No. 1 singles, and senior Rone van Wyk, who is 5-3 from the No. 3 spot. The duo is also the Red Wolves’ top doubles tandem with an 8-1 record on the No. 1 court.
