JAGUAR WOMEN ADD JUCO POST PLAYER TO 2010 SIGNEE CLASS

MOBILE, Ala. - University of South Alabama women's basketball head coach Rick Pietri announced Friday afternoon that Taylor Ammons has signed to play for the Jaguars for the 2010-11 season.

"Taylor is a great addition to our program," Pietri said.  "She's an extremely long, explosive athlete and an outstanding defender both in the post and out on the floor.  She's more than willing to take a charge and is an incredibly active rebounder.  I'm very pleased to have her in our program."

Ammons, a 6-1 post player from Paris Junior College in Paris Texas, comes to USA after starting the past two seasons for the Lady Dragons.  This past season, Ammons earned Texas Eastern Athletic Conference all-league honors after averaging 11.1 points per outing, pulling down 8.7 boards per game and connecting on 48 percent of her shots from the field.  She ranked 13th in the TEAC in scoring and 22nd nationally in rebounding.  The Vicksburg, Miss., native was one of the top 5 players in her conference, earning her a nomination for All-American honors.

As a sophomore, Ammons best outing came against Grayson County College where she had a season-high 28 points and 15 rebounds, while also recording five steals.

Ammons only played one season for Sean LeBeauf, but the first-year head coach at Paris JC believes the Jags are getting an excellent all-around player.

"Taylor was the heart and soul of our team," LeBeauf said.  "I have never coached a player that has worked harder than her.  She has a great personality, which allows her to get along with anyone.  She is always encouraging her teammates and is just a great team player."

Prior to her arrival at PJC, Ammons prepped at Vicksburg High School where she led the club in rebounding and earned all-county honors both her senior and junior seasons.

Ammons becomes the second signee to this year's recruiting class, joining Kentwood (La.) High School's Ronneka Robertson, who signed with the Jags back during the fall.
