2010 SBC Championships - First round results
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - University of South Alabama women's golf senior Claudia Wolf shot a 2-under-par 70 and closed the opening round in a two-way tie for second place in the individual standings Monday at the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championship at Robert Trent Jones at The Shoals.
Wolf carded five birdies in the opening round, and will begin round two just one shot back of Denver's Kimberly Kim, who leads after shooting a 3-under-par 69 in round one.
"Claudia played really well," USA head coach T.J. Jackson said. "That was a big boost. She hit a lot of quality shots into greens, and converted those into birdies. She made some clutch putts today, and had some momentum going and kept it going, and that's what you need to do to shoot a low round."
The Lady Jaguars sit in fourth place after the first round with a 15-over-par team total of 303, just three shots behind Florida International and Middle Tennessee who are tied for second after opening round team totals of 300.
"I think it's a good start," Jackson said. "Overall it was a good day, but we have 36 holes left, and we just need to continue to do what we did today."
USA junior Nina Offenberg ended the first round in a six-way tie for 17th place after shooting a 4-over-par 76. Jaguar freshman Fanny Eineren carded a 5-over-par 77 in round one.
Sarah-Louise Winter shot 1-under par on the back nine, and finished 8-over-par for the round with an 80, while Ana Garcia carded a first-round score of 82.
Denver sits atop the team standings after the first round after shooting a 7-under-par team total of 281.
USA will begin its second round of the championship at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday with Garcia first on the tee. She will be followed by Winter (9:04 a.m.), Eineren (9:13 a.m.), Offenberg (9:22 a.m.) and Wolf (9:31 a.m.).
