JAG TRACK AND FIELD TEAM HEADS TO TROY FOR COACH O INVITATIONAL

MOBILE, Ala. - After returning home with two victories from the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala., last weekend, the University of South Alabama track and field team will travel upstate again this Saturday for the Coach O Invitational in Troy, Ala.

"After a few standout performances last week, we're hoping to carry on that momentum at Troy," USA head track and field coach Paul Brueske. "We're looking to keep the ball rolling and keep improving, and hopefully the weather will cooperate."

Highlighting the men's team will be freshman Vince Frawley and sophomore Damien Lee. Frawley grabbed first in the pole vault at the Auburn meet with a personal-best jump of 5.07m/16-7.5. Frawley set a new school record and qualified for the USA Track and Field junior nationals with the mark.

Lee earned the first victory of his collegiate career at Auburn in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 9:33.93.

Distance runner Saber Salah will also be competing this weekend after finishing second in the 1,500 meters with a time 3:45.10 last weekend. Salah earned Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete-of-the-Week honors with his performance at the War Eagle Invitational.

Sophomores Joey Torres and Stephen Nobles will look to lead the Jags on the field this Saturday after bringing home two second-place finishes last weekend. Torres placed second in the discus with a 53.40m/175-2.0 mark, while Nobles landed in second in the hammer throw with a 54.21m/177-10.0 toss.

The freshman's throw landed her the second spot in USA's all-time records and qualified her for the USATF Junior Nationals along with Frawley. Johnson will shoot for higher marks after earning second in the hammer throw with a 54.08m/177-5.0 toss.

Freshman Shannon Stever will also be competing after taking the third spot in the pole vault with a 3.50m/11-7.75 mark.
