OCALA, Fla. - University of South Alabama women's golf sophomore Ana Garcia shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Lady Jaguars in the second round of the MSU Women's Intercollegiate Saturday at Juliette Falls Golf Club in Ocala, Fla.
Garcia (81-73) moved to a two-way tie for 16th place with her 1-over-par Saturday afternoon, and helped the Lady Jaguars improve 14 strokes from the opening round for a second-round team total of 305.
Through two rounds, Garcia has carded 24 pars, while USA senior Claudia Wolf has totaled seven birdies. Wolf is 2-under-par on par
"We were just totally better all-around," USA head coach T.J. Jackson said. "We executed better today. We knew we put ourselves in a hole yesterday, and knew we could play better. They got out there and played well, and were mentally focused and that's the biggest key. That leads to good things happening. This is a golf course that is fair, and usually if you play well on those courses you're going to score well. Today we kept the ball in play better, made a few more putts and got up-and-down a few more times, and that was the difference. We'll go out tomorrow with a little more confidence, hopefully, and improve on today's score."
USA freshman Fanny Eineren shot a 76 in the second round, and sits tied for 18th with teammate Claudia Wolf (77-78) with a two-round total of 155.
Junior Nina Offenberg and sophomore Anna Sellen-Runefjell each shot 78 in Saturday's second round.
Stetson shot a tournament-low 293 in the second round, and holds a two-stroke lead over Daytona State College in the team standings heading into Sunday's final round.
DSC's Mitsuki Katahira, Charleston Southern's Olivia Higgins and Stetson's Alex Buelow enter the final round in a three-way tie for first place in the individual standings. Katahira and Buelow each shot 2-under-par Saturday, while Higgins shot 1-under-par.
