USA WOMEN'S TENNIS TO HOST GEORGIA STATE SUNDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will close out their six-match homestand Sunday at 11 a.m. against Georgia State on the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Jags lead the all-time series with the 7-0 Panthers. Last season No. 74 USA dominated Georgia State 6-1 at home.

South Alabama enters the match at 1-10 on the year with their lone victory coming over New Orleans 4-3 on Feb. 24. The Jaguars last match against Sun Belt Conference foe Troy on March 28 ended in a 5-2 defeat at home.

USA is led by junior Katie Welch and sophomore Chané Hines who have combined for a total of eight singles victories this spring. The pair also make up South Alabama’s leading doubles team posting a 4-5 mark from the No. 1 spot.

Georgia State (4-11) is coming off a busy weekend in Virginia, as the Panthers defeated No. 68 Old Dominion, 4-3, before falling to No. 24 VCU, 6-1. GSU is 2-6 on the road this season.

The Panthers’ No. 22 Diana Nakic has tallied an impressive 15-0 record in singles duels this year. Nakic has downed two ranked opponents this spring, No. 19 Nadine Fahoum of Old Dominion and No. 84 Monica Arguello of Furman.
