WOLF LEADS LADY JAGS AFTER OPENING ROUND AT MSU WOMEN'S INTERCOLLEGIATE

Round One Results

OCALA, Fla. - University of South Alabama women's golf senior Claudia Wolf shot a 5-over-par 77 to close the first round of the MSU Women's Intercollegiate Friday at Juliette Falls Golf Club in Ocala, Fla.

Wolf (40-37) carded the lowest first-round score for USA and sits just four shots off the lead heading into Saturday's second round. The Lady Jaguars finished with a team total of 319 in the opening round, and will begin the second round just 16 strokes off the lead of Stetson, who shot a first-round team total of 303.

"We had a little trouble on and around the greens today," USA head coach T.J. Jackson said. "This is just the first of three rounds, but we haven't put ourselves in a hole so deep that we can't get out of it. We regrouped and have already got some practice in, so we're ready to get it tomorrow.

"The course played somewhat scoreable, and we just didn't take advantage of it. We all know that, and I think we'll have a more relaxed, aggressive mindset tomorrow when we go out and play the course. We just don't need to panic at this point. We're only 16 shots behind, as poorly as we played. We have two more days of golf, and we just need to go out an play better. That's the bottom line. And we can do it, we all know that. So, we're looking forward to tomorrow and better scores."

USA freshman Fanny Eineren (36-43) shot a first-round 79, and enters the second round just six shots off the lead.

Daytona St. College and Charleston Southern closed the opening round tied for second with team totals of 304. Charleston Southern's Olivia Higgins (36-37) sits atop the individual standings after the first round after posting a 1-over-par 73 Friday.

The second round of the MSU Women's Intercollegiate will tee-off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. USA sophomore Anna Sellen-Runefjell is scheduled as the first Lady Jaguar who will tee-off Saturday, with an 8:18 a.m. tee time.
