MOBILE, Ala. - Following a senior campaign in which he committed just two errors and closed with a 44-game errorless streak, University of South Alabama second basemanZach Grichorwas named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) NCAA Division I Rawlings Gold Glove team, making him the first Jaguar in the program's history to receive the honor.

Grichor, a native of Spring, Texas, did not commit an error after the Jaguars' March 10 contest against Tennessee Tech, and finished as the top fielding second baseman in the Sun Belt Conference with a .994 fielding percentage. He helped lead the Jaguar defense to a school-record tying fielding percentage of .972, matching the previous mark of the 1992 team.

The award recognizes nine players, one at each position, for outstanding defensive play, and is selected by the ABCA All-America Committee. Grichor became the first SBC second baseman to receive the award, which is selected by the ABCA All-America Committee, and just the second Sun Belt student-athlete to earn a Gold Glove.

"Certainly, to make just two errors all season, and not make one after March 10th is astonishing," USA head coach Steve Kittrell said. "Zach had a tremendous season, and he is an outstanding second baseman. It is remarkable to make the Gold Glove team, and it is something that he earned. He has very good hands and actions, good range, a great pivot on the double play and is a hard worker. As a pitcher and as a coach, you're very confident when the ball is hit in his direction. We're all very proud of him here at South Alabama for winning this award."

During his two-year career at USA in which he started every game, 114 total, Grichor committed just 10 errors in 618 chances, and assisted in turning 71 double plays, while batting .314 with three home runs and 67 RBI.
