MOBILE, Ala. - Former University of South Alabama softball standout Evelyn Pare and the Canadian National Team closed out their season at the World Cup of Softball V earlier this week in Oklahoma City.
The Canadian National team fell 9-3 to the United States Futures National Team in its final game of the 2010 season, giving them a fourth-place finish at the World Cup. Canada started the summer on a high note by winning the Bronze medal at the 2010 ISF XII Women’s World Championship in Caracas, Venezuela.
At the World Cup tournament, Pare scored the game-tying run in Canada’s 5-4 victory over the USA Futures on July 24.
Pare graduated to the Canadian National Team from Quebec’s Excellence Program in 2009. Internationally, she competed at the Canada Cup, the KFC World Cup of Softball and the Pan American Championship last season. She then played at the 2009 Senior Women’s Canadian Championships, and was named an All-Star Outfielder as her Quebec Rebelles team placed sixth.
In just two seasons at South Alabama, Pare was named all-Sun Belt Conference twice and National Fast Pitch Coaches Association all-region once. She was named second-team all-SBC in 2007after posting a .344 batting average and ranking second in the league in stolen bases and runs. In 2008, Pare was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA second-team all-South Region squad, and was also a first-team all-league selection.
Pare set a SBC record with 40 stolen bases her senior season. She holds career records at USA in batting average (.369), runs (79), triples (six) and stolen bases (69). Pare also set season records in runs (46), triples (three), walks (32) and stolen bases (40). In addition, Pare owns the longest hitting streak in school history at 15 consecutive games.
