JAGUAR SOCCER SHUTS OUT ALUMNI

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama soccer team defeated the alumni, 2-0, Saturday night at “The Cage.”

The current Jaguars took on members of the men’s and women’s alumni team for the first two periods of play. In the final period the current Jags competed in an inner squad match.

“We had a great alumni turn out,” USA Head coach Mike Varga said. “I was very pleased with our play and felt that we moved the ball around very well. “ I thought the girls played great for this point in the season and as much as we have been conditioning. I am looking forward to an exciting year.”

USA sophomore Natalie Parsons gave the Jags a 1-0 lead when she netted the game’s first goal at the 52:30 mark of the second period.

Freshman Kristyn Thacker secured the victory when she scored from the top of the box at the 58:08 mark.

Melissa Drish and Julie Buechner combined to turn back 13 shots and record a shutout for the Jaguars.

Tatum Perry scored at the 23:70 mark of the inner squad match to give the blue team a 1-0 victory over the orange team.

South Alabama opens the 2010 season Friday Aug. 20, when they take on Jackson State in Jackson Miss. at 3 p.m.
