MOBILE, Ala. – Trey Clark, the only individual to start at center on the University of South Alabama football team’s offensive line during the program’s first two-plus seasons, provided the Jaguars with another milestone Thursday.

The junior from Prattville, Ala., was a first-team Capital One Academic All-District 4 selection as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the first individual to earn such accolades since the program began competing in 2009.  He now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot; first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees are expected to be announced Thursday, Dec. 8.

District 4 at the NCAA Division I level includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

In helping the Jags to a 6-3 mark entering their Nov. 19 season finale against Cal Poly, the 6-foot-1, 270-pounder has graded out at 70 percent or higher on seven occasions this fall.  That included posting a season-best 90 percent mark following a 33-30 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Oct. 15, while he also paced USA in the category after defeats of West Alabama and Lamar to open the year.  Clark ranks third on the squad with 46 pancake blocks as well, highlighted by a season-high nine in the Jaguars’ contest at Kent State the final weekend of September.

His efforts have helped the Jags average more than 165 yards rushing and 332 overall per game while scoring 26 points per outing.

Clark was second on the team with 75 knockdown blocks a year ago, while he has anchored a line that helped USA average better than 435 yards and 41 points per contest in the program’s first two seasons of competition.  The Jaguars have an all-time mark of 23-3 with one game remaining in 2011.
