MOBILE, Ala. – May 3, 2013, will mark the 50th Anniversary of the University of South Alabama. Throughout the academic year, the USA Department of Athletics will recognize “50 Great Moments In Jaguar Athletics” to honor past teams, coaches and student-athletes for their accomplishments.
June 26, 1968
Beth Barry becomes the first women’s golfer in school history to qualify for an NCAA Regional, as she would advance to the semifinals of the 24th annual Women’s National Collegiate Tournament. Barry, who competed with the men’s team during her time at USA, would go on to claim four straight Alabama Women’s Amateur Championships from 1969-72 as well as win the Southern Women’s Amateur Championship on five occasions from 1971-82. The runner-up at the 1971 United States Women’s Amateur Championship, Barry also competed in the U.S. Open and twice participated in the Curtis Cup during her playing career.
