MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama football team went through an hour-and-a-half workout Monday morning at the practice fields on camps as part of spring drills.
The Jaguars went from 5:30-7 a.m. in shells in just their third practice of the spring.
“This football team is hungry and they think they have a lot to prove,” South Alabama head coach Joey Jones said. “But on the flip side of that, we have a lot of work to do. Defensively right now, we are ahead of the offense and that’s fine. That’s what we want – a great defense. Offensively, we are still putting things in and trying to establish a running game, passing game and quick-tempo offense. Their (team) heads are spinning, but I’m proud of where we are.
“It’s not going to happen overnight, we just have to keep working. And we have to keep in the back of our minds that our goal is to be great this fall. If we work every day and do what we’re supposed to do, then we’ll get there. We just have to keep that mindset.”
USA opened Monday’s practice with work on punt team, followed by work on the running game. The Jags then focused on perimeter screens before the offense came together with the defense for work on perimeter runs and passes.
They followed with 7-on-7 drills against the defense, before going into team offense versus defense. The Jags worked on third-down situations and blitz pickup against the defense before the final that ended practice.
South Alabama will return to practice Thu., at 6:30 a.m.
