Ashleigh Ryals carded a 78 on the final day of the Folino Invitational.

INDUSTRY, Calif. – Taylor Appleyard and Ashleigh Ryals recorded a 77 and 78, respectively as the University of South Alabama women’s golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Folino Invitational at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms, its first event of the spring season.

The duo ended with 243 totals to both tie for 43rd place individually, while the Jaguars finished ninth as a squad after a 319 team score in the final round; that was USA’s lowest of the event.  It was the second straight sub-80 round for Appleyard, a freshman, while it was Ryals’ lowest score of the tournament.

Ryals had two of USA’s three birdies, with those coming on her second and third holes of the day at Nos. 14 and 15.  Appleyard had birdie on the par-five 11th.

Anna Sellén-Runefjell (75-80-83) was the top finisher for the Jags, posting a 238 54-hole total to tie for 25th place, with Kristen Golightly (83-82-81) tying for 46th at 246 and Ana Garcia (82-81-84) in 50th place one shot behind her.

Gonzaga (301-303-293) won the team title with an 897 score after a 9-over-par 293 in the last round that was the low 18-hole total of the event. Tara Green (74-68-78) of Montana was the medalist, claiming the individual title by one stroke over a pair of players at 7-over-par 220.

The Jaguars will return home to play host to the 10th Annual USA Invitational.
