Sun Belt Conference Tournament Bracket
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team qualified for its 27th consecutive Sun Belt Conference Tournament a week ago when it swept a doubleheader from Western Kentucky at Stanky Field. The No. 4-seeded Jaguars will open the 2012 SBC Tournament, which will be held at Bowling Green Ballpark in Bowling Green, Ky., Wed., May 23, at 11 a.m. against No. 5 Louisiana at Monroe.
The USA-ULM matchup will kick off this year’s tournament, and marks the first time the Jaguars have faced the Warhawks in the SBC Tournament since 2009.
The tournament will be a pool-play format for the second consecutive year. South Alabama (21-33, 15-15 SBC) will make its 34th appearance in the tournament, and will compete in Pool A against ULM, first-seed Florida Atlantic and eighth-seeded Western Kentucky.
USA will take on WKU at 7 p.m. Thu., May 24, and will face FAU at 7 p.m. Fri., May 25. The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sun., May 27, and will be televised live by the Sun Belt Network.
The Jags are a combined 3-8 all-time against its three pool opponents in the SBC Tournament. South Alabama has more than twice as many SBC Tournament wins (76) than any other current or former SBC member. USA's No. 4 seed is its highest seed in the SBC Tournament since 2006 when the Jags earned a No. 3 seed.
USA is 1-1 against ULM in the tournament, 2-6 against WKU and 0-1 against FAU.
