EUGENE, Ore. – Opening the second day of United States Olympic Trials heptathlon competition with a top-10 long jump finish, the University of South Alabama’s Lindsay Schwartz built off Friday’s performance in the first four events to establish a 5,614-point school standard and finish 14^th overall at Hayward Field on Saturday.
 
In the final trial of the event, Schwartz crossed the 800-meter end line seventh in her heat and a second-and-a-half earlier than unattached athlete Kasey Hill for 859 points – 21 more than Hill got – to surpass her own previous South Alabama record 5,606 points.
 
After recording three personal-bests in four first-day events, Schwartz headed into competition Saturday at 17^th with 3,361 points. Seven hundred and ninety-two points came her way via a 5.80m (19-00.75) long jump to begin the back leg, and then Schwartz took 13^th in both the javelin throw (36.75m/120-07; 605 points) and 800 meters (2:17.42), for the new record, which finished her ahead of Wisconsin’s Deanne Latham and Maryland’s Kiani Profit, who beat her at the NCAAs earlier this month.

Schwartz exhausts her collegiate track and field career as a three-time NCAA All-American, after finishing 13^th and 10^th in the outdoor heptathlon at the championships during the 2011 and ’12 seasons, respectively, as well as 13^th in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Schwartz is a three-time Sun Belt Conference heptathlon champion and two-time indoor pentathlon champion, leading both South Alabama and the conference in both.
 
Off the track, Schwartz was elected to the 2011 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Division I Track & Field Team, and was voted the 2011-12 South Alabama Jaguar Female Student-Athlete of the Year at the Pete Tolbert Night of Champions.
