MOBILE, Ala. – May 3, 2013, will mark the 50th Anniversary of the University of South Alabama.  Throughout the academic year, the USA Department of Athletics will recognize “50 Great Moments In Jaguar Athletics” to honor past teams, coaches and student-athletes for their accomplishments.

Feb. 23, 2004
South Alabama’s women’s basketball team defeats Florida International, 59-58, to clinch back-to-back Sun Belt Conference titles for the first time since the 1987-88 and ’88-89 seasons.  Donyel Wheeler had a team-high 14 points, and Sara Carter added 10 and five steals for the Lady Jags, who improved to 20-5 overall with the victory.  The win came just four days after Lady Jag head coach Rick Pietri took over as the program’s all-time leader in SBC victories, while less than a month later USA would play host to a national tournament contest for the first time in program history when Florida State visited the Mitchell Center for a first-round WNIT match-up on March 17.
