MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama soccer head coach Graham Winkworth has announced the signing of Lauren Allison to the 2013-14 roster, citing her goal-hungry attitude as a major enhancement to the Jaguar squad.
A striker for the Oxford United Ladies Football Club First Team, Allison has deposited over a third of her team’s total goals this year to date, scoring 29 of the squad’s 75 in South West Combination Women’s Football League competition, earning a starting nod in all 20 matches she has appeared in this season. She has scored nine more in cup competition to extend her season total to 38.
Allison carded a hat trick versus Forest Green Rovers Ladies in a 4-2 win in January, and drove in four in a 9-0 drubbing of Keynsham Development LFC just a week-and-a-half ago. In nine days’ time, her squad will take on the Ladies of Everton in the fifth round proper of the Football Association Challenge (FA) Women’s Cup.
“Lauren is an excellent addition to our squad,” Winkworth said. “I have been looking very hard to find an attacking player who has the versatility to play in a number of different roles. Lauren's pace, ability to bring others into the game and movement off the ball are just some of the quality attributes she possesses that will help our program immediately.
“She is very passionate about her football (soccer) and will provide us with a different type of attacking threat this season,” he continued. “Her father tells me that she is a terrible loser, and this is just the type of character we need. I very much look forward to working with her over the next few years.”
