After two stints and 14 seasons as head coach of the South Alabama baseball program, Eddie Stanky announces that he will retire at the end of the year. Stanky would guide the Jaguars to a 40-26 mark that spring — becoming USA’s first-ever Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year — and after leading the school to the league tournament championship the Jags would participate in the NCAA South Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. Stanky ended his career with a 488-195-2 (71.2%) overall record, and after helping the Jaguars reach an NCAA Regional on five occasions he was part of the inaugural USA Athletic Hall of Fame Class that was inducted in 1989.
