Glenn Borgmann becomes the first All-American in the history of the USA baseball program when he earns first-team honors from The Sporting News after hitting .471 — a season record that still stands today — while posting team-leading totals with 15 home runs and 68 RBI in 45 games. The native of Butler, N.J., who finished his two-years as a Jaguar with a school career-record .409 batting average, was selected ninth overall by the Minnesota Twins in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft following the season, earning a promotion to the big leagues a year later. Borgmann would play eight years for the franchise and nine overall in the Major Leagues, leading the American League in 1978 throwing out 48.7 percent of base runners attempting to steal.
