MOBILE, Ala. – May 3, 2013, will mark the 50th Anniversary of the University of South Alabama. Throughout the academic year, the USA Department of Athletics will recognize “50 Great Moments In Jaguar Athletics” to honor past teams, coaches and student-athletes for their accomplishments.

In a 10-1 victory over Arkansas State on the second day of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Jason Norton strikes out 13 while surrendering just three hits to pick up his 34th career win and set a new league career record. The senior right-hander — a first-team all-conference selection that season — ended the year with a 9-3 mark and 121 strikeouts in 105.1 innings, helping the Jaguars to the championship game of the NCAA East Regional in Clemson, S.C. Norton was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft that June.

Gareth Maybin picks up his fourth individual title of the season — and school-record eighth of his career — after earning medalist honors at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Highlighted by a season-low 5-under-par 67 on the second day, he wins the event by one stroke with a 2-under-par 214 54-hole score while helping USA to a third-place team finish. An honorable mention PING All-American selection at the end of the year, Maybin led the league with a 71.33 scoring average and posted seven rounds in the 60s in his final season as a Jaguar.
