SOCCER RETURNS TO TALLAHASSEE, PLAYS AT FLORIDA STATE IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

Bracket

MOBILE, Ala.
– The University of South Alabama soccer team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, and will once again travel to No. 1 seed Florida State for its first-round match, the Division I Women's Soccer Committee announced Monday afternoon.

The Seminoles, ranked No. 2 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I poll with an 18-1-1 record, and Jaguars will face off Friday at 6 p.m. CST.

South Alabama earned the Sun Belt Conference's automatic bid after defeating Troy Sunday in the SBC Tournament finals. The Jags go into the Florida State game with a 19-2-1 overall record and an 18-game unbeaten streak dating back to Sept. 5.

"We're excited," USA head coach Graham Winkworth said. "Florida State is a No. 1 seed again and a very talented team, with potentially the national player of the year. We want to be recognized as a national program and to be in this tournament two years in a row, we're setting the bar high and hopefully we can go in there and give them a real game. You never know, it's just 11 players against 11 players."

Friday's tilt, a rematch of last year's NCAA first-round contest that ended in a 5-0 FSU win, will be the seventh in the series between the two schools. The Seminoles are 6-0 all-time against the Jags.

"I think last year we felt almost like our season was over when we won the championship and went (to Florida State), and it was more of a case of enjoying the occasion," Winkworth said. "This year we want to do ourselves proud and we want to play South Alabama soccer, and really give a good account of ourselves. If we do, I know that we can play with Florida State on any given day. It's just a case of focusing on our performance and not Florida State so much. If we put in a good performance then we can give them a good game."

Tickets will go on sale beginning Tuesday, November 11 and can be purchased over the phone at 888-FSU-NOLE, in person at the Seminole Ticket Office located in Building C of the University Center and online at Seminoles.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the Seminole Soccer Complex beginning at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, November 14.
