MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama football team is one week away from reporting for preseason camp, with the Jaguars slated to meet the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 5 prior to officially taking the field for the first time in preparation for the 2014 campaign.
Starting on Wednesday, the Jags will take part in four evening workouts beginning at 6:30 p.m. — each scheduled to last two hours — at the fields on campus before concluding the first week of practice with a 3 p.m. session on Sunday.
The following week, USA's final one before the start of classes, will see the Jaguars take part in two-a-day practices on Monday and Thursday with morning workout starting at 7:15 a.m. with the team returning to the field at 4:30 p.m. Â On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday the Jags will practice from 7:15-9:40 a.m., with the first fall scrimmage scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.
After a day off, the Jaguars will resume training on the morning of Monday, Aug. 18, working out five straight days to prepare for scrimmage No. 2, which will take place on campus Saturday, Aug. 23 at 9 a.m.
The final scrimmage — set for Thursday, Aug. 28 — will follow three straight days of practice, and after two days off USA will begin its in-season practice schedule.
The program's annual Fan Day event will be held at the Mitchell Center on campus Sunday, Aug. 24, starting at 4 p.m.
The Jags open the year on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Kent State, returning home the following week to play the first of six home contests at Ladd-Peebles Stadium when Mississippi State visits. Â USA and the Bulldogs will kick off at 3 p.m., with the game slated to be televised nationally on ESPN News.
