WILLIAMS TABBED SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama sophomore Ken Williams has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

It is his first weekly award and the first for a Jaguar since Augustine Rubit in December 2013.

Williams averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in leading the Jaguars to a pair of Sun Belt wins over Troy and Texas-Arlington. He recorded a career-high 29 points—the most by any USA player this season—Saturday against UT Arlington shooting 7-for-13 overall and 6-for-10 from 3-point range. He also set a new personal best with eight rebounds, and tied his career high with six 3-pointers and nine free throws.

The Houston, Texas native shot 44.4 percent from the floor and 47.4 percent on nine triples for the week. He had 11 assists, including a career-best six—with only one turnover—at Troy, and followed that up with five against UTA.

Williams ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (15.4 ppg) and in 3-point percentage (37.2%), and third in 3-pointers per game (2.6).
