MEN’S BASKETBALL MAKES FINAL TWO ADDITIONS TO 2015-16 ROSTER

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama men's basketball head coach Matthew Graves announced Thursday the last two signings for the 2015-16 season.

D.J. Muepo, a 6-foot-6 forward from Los Angeles, Calif., and Josh Ajayi, a 6-foot-6 forward from San Gabriel, Calif., will enroll in classes later this month at the start of the fall semester. Ajayi is a partial qualifier and will therefore be ineligible for games, but can practice with the team.

"I'm very excited about D.J. and Josh coming into the program," Graves said. "From their physical features, you're going to see that they're very big and physical guys that will certainly enhance our roster. They're both California kids, following Nick Stover here, so we feel like we're starting to develop a nice potential pipeline of kids from that area."

Muepo spent his freshman season at Lamar where he averaged 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10 appearances, including a 13-point, eight-rebound performance against Northwestern State.

He spent his sophomore campaign at Riverside City College in Riverside, Calif., earning First Team All-Orange Empire Conference honors after putting up 10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per outing.

"I'm looking forward to working with D.J. because of his versatility," Graves said. "He's going to be able to play the '3' through the '5' for us and be able to guard those positions. His versatility to play out on the perimeter and drive the ball, and use his athleticism inside against even taller players will enhance our roster."

As a prep at Dorsey High School, Muepo was named to the Los Angeles All-City team after averaging 21.5 points and almost nine rebounds per game, leading the Dons to a 27-9 overall record and 10-2 mark in the league.

Ajayi averaged a double-double his final two seasons at San Gabriel Academy—including marks of 16.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per contest as a junior—before moving on to Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Conn. in 2014-15. He put up 15 points and 10 boards per game en route to receiving Class AA Honorable Mention All-New England honors by the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council.

"We're going to get a chance to develop Josh over the course of the year as he has to sit out as a redshirt," Graves said. "He'll be working on his overall basketball skill package and I think he has a tremendously bright future in our program."
