Date: 3/5
Time: 3-5 p.m. (CST)
Place: James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility
Practice attire: Full pads
Offensive Player of the Day: Josh Magee, Jr., WR, Hoover, Ala.
-Offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent on Magee: "Josh came out and had a really solid day. He is a veteran player in this offense who can really stretch the field and get on top of defensive backs. He made some plays over the top today, and did some things underneath too. He is a guy who we are expecting to be a dominant player next year in this conference."
Defensive Player of the Day: Tre Alford, So., DL, Tuscaloosa, Ala.
-Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack on Alford: "Tre has been 'Mr. Consistent' through these first four practices. He plays with great technique, and if he makes a mistake he fixes it on the next play. He's coachable within a practice, and it's great to have guys like that on the team because you know in a game you can make an adjustment and it's going to get fixed right there."
Play of the Day: On a completed screen pass from Dallas Davis to Parker Mason, Devon Earl was able to break through and stop the play for a loss before the wideout could turn upfield.
Team period highlights: The first 10-minute team period midway through the day focused on the run, with two more periods later in the practice lasting nearly 30 minutes as the offense ran over 50 plays.
Miscellaneous Notes-This marked the first time this spring that the Jaguars practiced on back-to-back days.
-Roman Buchanan recovered a fumble on the first play of the initial team period, and T'Qwan Robinson intercepted a pass as well late in the day.
-Dallas Davis found Kevin Kutchera for a 70-yard touchdown pass during 7-on-7 skeleton passing drills, and later connected with Josh Magee for 45 yards during the final team period.
-Christian Pearsall made a pair of noteworthy receptions on passes from Keith Williams; the first was a sliding catch for a 25-yard pick up during 7-on-7 drills, the second a one-handed grab that resulted in a gain of nearly 50 yards just outside the goalline during a team period.
-Deonta Moore broke off the longest run of the day during the second of three team periods, a 40-yard scoring dash.
-Kickoff return was the special teams focus of the day.
-In the morning, more than 125 prospects were in attendance for the program's annual Junior Day.
Head coach Joey Jones-On the team's first practice in pads: "I'm pleased with what we know mentally, I don't think there have been many busts out there. But we have to clean it up physically from the standpoint of technique and taking the right steps and using the right hand placements. We're not there yet in that area, but that's why we practice in the spring. We have 11 more days to work on that."
-On the focus of Saturday's team period: "Running the football and running play action. We did some drop-back passing, but we have to come out of the spring with a feel for how good we can run the football and how good we can stop the run."
-On his impressions of the first week of the spring season: "I think the kids are into what we are doing, they are very tuned in — I like that, their attitude has been great. But it is typical that three or four days into spring technically we are not where we need to be. We have to keep working, it's not going to be a finished product although I think everybody knows that."
Up next: The Jaguars will return to the James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility Monday at 7:10 a.m. for a practice in full pads
