Date: 8/3
Time: 8 a.m.-9:50 a.m. (CDT)
Place: James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility
Practice attire: Helmets and shorts, no pads
Offensive Player of the Day: Gerald Everett, Sr., TE, Lithonia, Ga.
-Offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent on Everett: "Gerald really made a lot of plays as we all know that he is capable of doing. I thought his routes — underneath and over the top, everything we were doing — attitude and work ethic were phenomenal today."
Defensive Player of the Day: Roman Buchanan, Sr., LB, Enterprise, Ala.
-Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack on Buchanan: "Roman did such a great job of executing in the spring, but now you see him taking that leadership role where I feel like I've got another coach on the field; it's been a while since I've had that kind of guy. When I'm out there making corrections with the players on the field he is on the sideline talking to players getting them corrected, and I see them getting better from one snap to the next because of things he said to them. That's tremendous, and that's exactly what you want out of a leader like him. "
Play of the Day: Cole Garvin connected with Samory Collier across the middle for 20 yards on the second snap of the third series during the 7-on-7 skeleton drills.
Team period highlights: With the Jaguars in just helmets and no pads, there was only one 12-minute 7-on-7 passing period.
Miscellaneous Notes

-Samory Collier led all receivers with three receptions, including one on the second snap of the third series for 20 yards. Gerald Everett and Deonta Moore also had two catches each.
-The defense forced three coverage sacks on three of the first four series.
-JarMarkus Sims, Tyree Vines and Jalen Thompson each had a pair of tackles.
Head coach Joey Jones
-On his thoughts about the second day of camp: "I thought our conditioning really showed up. We didn't have anybody miss practice because of not being in shape. Secondly, I've challenged our team to be the smartest team in the country and we are starting to get it. We still have a ways to go by the first ballgame, but I was pleased with practice."
-On the defense generating more pressure on the quarterback: "It's hard to tell right now without pads on. I know that we've had some good pass-rush drills. I know out on the edge, we are going to be a lot more athletic. We have more guys that can rush the passer, so I would think that would show up out on the field, but I'll know more in a few days."
-On the offense having a better focus on ball security on day two: "I thought our receivers did really well today. It was much improved (from yesterday). We're making the right reads, but again until we start seeing guys with pads on and taking hits, you really aren't able to tell as much. I'm excited to see tomorrow's practice."
Jimmy Gipson
-On how he is feeling after missing last season with injury: "I feel great. I've just been trying to take my time and get my progressions down so I can help my teammates the best that I can."
-On the emphasis of getting more pressure on the quarterback this season: "This summer, I helped the guys go over the basics, especially on pass rushing, because pass rushing is an art. You can't just learn how to do it over night. I watched last season from the sideline and saw how bad it looked. I've just really tried to help the young guys with the basics. Before you learn any advanced stuff, you have to know the basics."
-On what he uses to his advantage out on the field against bigger offensive linemen: "God blessed me with long arms. Maybe not the height, but I have longer arms than most tackles probably. With that said, I just have to play smart and within myself."
Sean Grayer
-On the lack of productivity of the defensive line last season: "We've used that as motivation this season to go out and perform better. There were games last season where we didn't get any pressure on the quarterback where he was able to run free and scramble, which made it harder on our secondary. This year, we've done a lot of pass-rush drills. We also have more speed on the outside, so we should be better in that area this season."
-On what they've done to put more pressure on the quarterback: "We are just allowing guys to play fast. Last season, it was more about thinking the process through. Now it's just about playing fast. We know the play and the technique and now it's just about going out there and making the play."
-On the first couple of days of camp: "Competition has been really high these first couple of days. Everybody is fighting for a starting job. We're trying to make it a fun atmosphere. We want everyone to have fun, work hard and try to get better, because our first game is going to be a tough one against Mississippi State."
Up next: The Jaguars are back on the practice field Thursday from 8-10 a.m.
