Date: 8/5
Time: 8 a.m.-10:02 a.m. (CDT)
Place: James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility
Practice attire: Shells (helmets and shoulder pads)
Offensive Player of the Day: The Offensive line.
-
Offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent on the offensive line: "Right now, for our offensive line as a group our physicality and mentality for day two in pads has really taken tremendous strides since the spring. We're creating a lot of good movement up front. We have a long way to go, but I just like the way those guys are working and the way we're getting good push up front."
Defensive Player of the Day: Sterrling Fisher, Fr., S, Madison, Ala.
-
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack on Fisher: "One of our young guys, Sterling Fisher had a great day today. He's a guy we picked up late. He is a long guy that can run. He can play a lot of positions for us. For a player who wasn't here with us in the summer and is having to learn this defense as fast as we're going right now, he's really picking things up. He's great with his teammates and is really busting his tail right now."
Play of the Day: On the fourth series of the 7-o-7 skeleton drills, Cole Butler delivered a 20-plus yard reception to James Bynes who split a pair of defenders. Also considered was a 10-yard pass by Dallas Davis to a diving Gerald Everett with three defenders on him.
Team period highlights: Following a 28-snap 7-on-7 skeleton drill session, South Alabama went through two 20-minute team periods on the Jaguars' second practice in shells. The first team period featured the offense running first-down plays 25 snaps, while the second saw first- and second- team units have one series of third-and-short situations.

Head coach Joey Jones

On his thoughts on today's practice: "I thought we had a good, physical practice today. We went over a lot of third-down situations. The kids are getting better and better. What I liked most about the practice though was the physical play. The guys were ready to hit people and I like that. I had to kind of tone them down a couple of times, but I liked that."
-
On where he feels his team is as they get ready to practice in full pads tomorrow: "I'll know a lot more about them after tomorrow. The first four days have been good. When you put full pads on though, things change and you find out what guys are ready to put their hand in the fire and which ones aren't."
-
On if one side of the ball is sticking out to him at this point in camp: "There really isn't one at this time. I think the offense ran the ball well today. Yesterday, the defense kind of dominated the third-down situations. You can't tell much right now really other than both sides are better."
Up next: South Alabama will be in full pads for the first time Saturday when they hit the practice field from 8-10 a.m.
