Interview Policies
1. All media interviews with USA student-athletes and coaches must be arranged through the Strategic Communications Office. The opportunity to interview coaches and student-athletes will be reserved for credentialed members of the media. Exceptions will be determined by the Strategic Communications Office. Media members are encouraged to make all interview requests at least 24 hours in advance. Interviews are normally scheduled before or after practice sessions so as not to interfere with the student-athlete's time away from athletics. The location is usually the practice site, although other locations may be used if convenient for the student-athlete. For postgame interviews, there will be a cooling off period for student-athletes before they speak to the media. A member of the Strategic Communications staff will work with coaches and student-athletes to set up an appropriate location for interviews following competition.
2. Media are not permitted to contact student-athletes or coaches directly under any circumstance. The Strategic Communications Office has a policy of not distributing phone numbers of student-athletes or coaches to anyone, and it discourages student-athletes from providing their numbers for follow-up calls or for any other reason.
3. The Strategic Communications Office reserves the right to deny any and all credential or interview requests.
4. Violators of any of these policies are subject to losing credentials and access to South Alabama sporting events, as well as the privilage of interviewing USA coaches and student-athletes.
